World Arena Ice Hall celebrates 20 years

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The World Arena Ice Hall in Colorado Springs is celebrating a milestone.

For 20 years, they’ve been hosting ice events, and today people packed the arena to learn about them first hand.

On one rink, participants got the chance to learn how to curl, a sport some of them had never even heard of.

Dena Rosenberry was one of the instructors, and she, herself, learned how to play at an event just like this one.

“To introduce people to a sport that little kids play, that grandparents play, that people play for decades and meet friends that you’ll know forever.. I mean that’s the best part. That’s the most fun,” Rosenberry said.

“I had no idea what [curling] was so to me it was pretty easy,” 9-year-old Evan Miller said.

“It’s a blast. I love it. It’s so much fun,” Evan’s dad, Jeff Miller added. “It looks much easier on TV. I mean, when I got here I fell flat on my butt.”

It’s a pretty common occurrence among ice sports. Even Olympic athletes admit to it.

“I fall all the time. Every day I take a spill,” Chris Knierim said.

“To have a day where I can influence and inspire kids of all ages to maybe take on the path that we’ve been on, it’s something that’s really close to my heart,” Alexa Scimeca said.

The event is put together every year and organizers say each season it gets bigger and better.

The ice hall is open around 350 days a year and during the busy season, they are open 18 hours a day.
