ASPEN, Colo. — The Colorado Department of Transportation is aiming to open Independence Pass Thursday at noon.

CDOT crews have been working from daylight to dark to clear avalanche slide paths, clear snow, ice, and other debris from the road, repair signs and guardrails, patch potholes, trim trees and brush, stripe the highway, and perform other necessary maintenance work.

Independence Pass, which is part of State Highway 82, connects Twin Lakes and Aspen.

Motorists can check the status of Independence Pass, and other Colorado mountain passes, by calling 511 or visiting cotrip.org.
