Mom discovers 2-year-old son has cancer from iPhone photo

ROCKFORD, Ill. – A mother’s gut-feeling, research, and iPhone saved the life of her 2-year-old son.

A few months ago, Julie Fitzgerald noticed that her son’s eye looked different than most.

“Probably a couple of months I would notice when I was looking at Avery in a light I would see something in the back of his eye,” Fitzgerald told WREX-TV.

After seeing the difference in her son’s eye in the light, Fitzgerald grew concerned.

Fitzgerald told WREX-TV that she started doing her research by reading articles online.

One article captured Fitzgerald’s attention.

Fitzgerald told WREX-TV that she read an article about a woman who spotted white eye in a family member’s photos, leading her to discover that her family member had cancer.

After reading the article, Fitzgerald decided to get her husband’s opinion, who said she shouldn’t worry about it.

Skepticism grew and Fitzgerald couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong.

That’s when Fitzgerald put the article to the test.

“I took a picture and I did not want to take the picture because I had this dreaded feeling in the pit of my stomach and I took the picture and boom. His whole pupil was just white and that’s when I knew,” Fitzgerald told WREX-TV.

Fitzgerald took the picture to a specialist, who told her that her son had multiple tumors and they needed to be removed.

WREX-TV reports that doctors told the Fitzgerald family that if they had waited longer, the tumors could have spread to his brain and blood.

Thankfully, the clever mom went with her gut.

Now, Julie’s husband, Patrick, wants to warn other fathers.

“Listen to your wife, that would be the first thing. Trust your gut.”
