COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A driver is facing multiple citations after a crash in southeastern Colorado Springs Tuesday night.

Police said the crash happened around 11:50 p.m. at the intersection of Airport Road and South Powers Boulevard. A Toyota minivan was headed southbound on Powers when the driver attempted to make a right turn onto westbound Airport Road. Police said the van was going too fast and did not successfully negotiate the turn. The front of the van hit the driver’s side of an eastbound Chevy pickup truck that was sitting and waiting for the stoplight to change.

One of the drivers had to be extricated from his vehicle. Both were hospitalized with minor injuries.

Police said the driver of the minivan was under the influence of prescription narcotics. He was served and released on several traffic charges.

Airport Road was shut down for several hours while crews investigated the crash. It reopened around 3:40 a.m.
