Dog chews recalled over possible salmonella contamination

A popular treat for canines is being recalled after a product tested positive for salmonella.

Nylabone issued a recall for its “Puppy Starter Kit” after salmonella was detected during a routine product test.

Affected products bear the item number: N201PSKP and UPC code of 0-18214-81291-3.

Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause an animal to have diarrhea, fever, vomiting and abdominal pain.

Officials warn that dog owners are also at risk if they have touched the chews.

So far, no illnesses have been reported.
