Convenience store fined $1 million for selling Spice

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A former Colorado Springs convenience store has been hit with a record $1 million fine for selling illegal synthetic cannabinoids, also known as Spice.

The Colorado Attorney General’s Office sued the store, Popo Wee Market, and its owner, Jin Ju Kim, in May 2014. The office said the store continued to sell Spice products, despite an earlier seizure of all its illegal products by law enforcement agents.

“An El Paso County district court judge found that the defendants, based on the earlier arrest of another retailer selling Spice and two different seizures of Spice products by law enforcement from her store, had actual knowledge that these products were both illegal and dangerous,” the office said in a statement.

The office said this is the highest penalty to date in a Spice case.
