TAMPA, Fla. – A Florida man was cleaning out his grandparents’ attic when he came across a box that contained some shocking items.

Inside the box, which was neatly organized, Mike Lopez found copper wire, coins, a map, and a hand with a ring on one finger, according to WFLA.

“It seems as though this belonged to my great grandparents because there is a picture of them in there,” Lopez told WFLA.

After doing some digging, Lopez took the box to experts with the Tampa Bay History Center.

After having the box and all of its contents examined, expert Rodney Kite-Powell determined that the map is estimated to be from the 1920s or 1930s and it appears to be a treasure map.

Unfortunately, Kite-Powell determined that the coins were not authentic; however, the hand appears to be the real deal.

Lopez and his family tells WFLA that they believe the hand belongs to Jose Gaspar, a famous Spanish pirate who is claimed to have raided the west coast of Florida during the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
