Deputies downgrade attempted kidnapping to ‘suspicious incident’

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — On Wednesday, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office announced they were searching for a suspect who may have attempted to abduct a child.

The incident took place in the area of Constitution Avenue and Marksheffel Road in eastern Colorado Springs.

After investigators gathered more information, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office downgraded the incident to a “suspicious incident.”

Investigators say the conversation between the child and the man did not rise to the level of criminal activity, though the man’s actions were suspicious.

UPDATE: The case of Attempted Kidnapping on Streamback Drive that the Sheriff’s Office has been investigating has been downgraded to a suspicious incident. The conversation between the male and the child did not rise to the level of criminal activity, though the man’s actions were suspicious in nautre. During our initial investigation it did not reveal a clear attempt to lure or kidnap the child. The Sheriff’s Office will continue to investigate this and would like to thank the mother for calling us to make us aware of this situation. We would like the public to know there is no threat to the community.
