Search for missing Colorado Springs mother continues

COLORADO SPRINGS – The Colorado Springs Fire Department’s search and rescue continues exhausting all efforts to locate the mother of an Air Force Academy cadet found deceased in his dorm room earlier this month. She was reported missing since Wednesday night, and reported possibly suicidal.

Authorities say Ksenia Quiros is 46-years-old, 5′-2″, small build, blonde hair, in good shape and experienced in outdoor activities. She is the mother of Alexandre Quiros, a 21-year-old AFA cadet and Cheyenne Mountain High School graduate found deceased in his dorm room earlier this month.

Rescue crews began searching southwestern Colorado Springs after her truck is found by police in the area of Stratton Open Space. Currently 12 fire fighting motocross teams completed their search, including brush trucks, heavy rescue and dive teams using sonar throughout reservoirs.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and Springs’ Police are assisting, and trying to ping her cell phone — though — only one ping has come back. Fire rescue says the areas recent winter-like weather is not helping this situation.

“This weather has really been a detriment to the search. Wednesday night the El Paso County search and rescue were able to use search dogs. You know we can get scent and that kind of thing. Now that we’ve had this snow, this rain and freezing temperatures, it really starts to be a detriment to having those kind of clues around,” said Captain Steve Oswald of the CSFD.

As for Thursday night, the search has been put on hold until Friday. Authorities will continue working with the family, collecting more clues and trying to figure out where Ms. Quiros might be. They ask if anyone knows or sees something, to please contact the Colorado Springs’ Police or Fire Department.
