Bishop Castle in Rye, Colo.

In 1959, 15-year-old Jim Bishop paid $450 for a 2.5-acre parcel of land. He saved the money from moving lawns, throwing newspapers and other family chores. What he built on that land is a true Southern Colorado wonder.

John Martin took a drive to the town of Rye to check out Bishop Castle in the San Isabel National Forest.
