FOWLER, Colo. — Just hours after fire crews contained a large grass fire near Pueblo-Otero County line, the Fowler River fire reignited.

La Junta Fire Chief Aaron Eveatt confirmed just after 8 p.m. Thursday that the fire flared up once again.

Rocky Ford dispatch said that crews have the fire surrounded within the burn zone and are keeping it contained.

Highway 50 between Fowler and Avondale was closed for a short time Thursday, but reopened around 9:45 p.m.

Eveatt said no structures are in danger.

The Fowler River fire started out as a controlled burn on Tuesday. On Wednesday, crews were called to Otero County for what was initially described as a “large grass fire.” The fire burned approximately 130 acres before crews could fully contain it.
