Royal Gorge Bridge and Park opens and offers exciting new attractions

With this warmer weather and spring break in the books, the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park has kicked off its season. It opened up last weekend and saw about 2,200 visitors.

“We’ve opened up with our new visitor’s center and the bridge and the sky coaster last Labor Day,” Mike Banderas, Vice President and General Manager of the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park, said.

And that’s not all they’ve added.

“This last weekend we opened up the new zip rider which traverses the Royal Gorge at about 35 to 40 miles an hour,” Banderas said.

So far it’s been a huge hit.

“We did have about 120 riders on the new zip line,” Banderas said.

“It was exhilarating,” Monte Dickey, who went for a ride on the zip line, said. “It just gets your heart racing and the wind rushing past and the views are amazing.”

And that seems to be the general consensus.

“The feedback is sensational. No dissatisfied customers at all.” Banderas said. “They love it and the first thing they want to do as soon as they get off is go back and ride it again.”

You must be at least 48 inches tall and 100 pounds to ride, and there is an additional fee.

“The zip rider and the sky coaster are additional pays and the zip rider is $40 and the sky coaster is $25,” Banderas said.

The Royal Gorge is a sight to see in itself, and these new attractions make it even more memorable.

“It’s amazing. I’ve never been here before.” Dickey said. “Our best friends lived here and brought us out for spring break with them. It’s amazing. It’s majestic and exciting and peaceful and then you take the zip line at the end and it makes the whole day amazing.”

The grand re-opening of the Royal Gorge is May 8, with three days of activities and a visit from the governor.
