People send well-wishes, donations following baby attack

People are sending well-wishes and donations to a Colorado woman whose baby was cut from her belly in an attack last week.

More than 200 people gathered for a candlelight vigil for 26-year-old Michelle Wilkins Sunday night in a park in Longmont. They held candles and signs and also wrote messages on white paper hearts to send to Wilkins.

Meanwhile, her family has set up a fund to pay for her recovery and expenses in response to offers of help.

Her family said Friday that her medical condition is “guardedly optimistic” and their focus is on her long-term recovery.

Prosecutors, meanwhile, are considering what charges to file against the 34-year-old woman accused of attacking Wilkins after allegedly offering to sell her baby clothes through Craigslist.
