National Veterans Day Run held at Memorial Park

The cold weather didn’t stop supporters and runners in the second annual National Veterans Day Run Sunday afternoon in Memorial Park.

The run benefitted Operation Gratitude, which sends more than 150,000 care packages annually to men and women deployed overseas.

Last year, participants helped raise more than $25,000 for veteran programs.

“It represents everybody’s support for America’s veterans, past and present, that everybody needs to help,” veteran and runner Tony Coyle said. “It’s to help the veterans. So that’s all I want to take away. All veterans need help.”

“It’s such a fabulous thing to know that this many people are going to come out on a cold day,” organizer Scott Abbott said. “But we’ve got the sunshine, it’s beautiful, and we’re ready to go in Colorado Springs, just to support something we need to support–all our veterans and military.”
