App of the Week: Spotify

Spotify allows you to find your favorite music, artists, and albums in an easy-to-use format. It’s great for the casual music listener.

This is the app version of the popular desktop music player.  It lets you listen to any album, artist, or playlist on shuffle mode on any device. On your tablet, you can also pick and choose individual songs to play.

Create your own playlists by adding individual songs, or listen to mixes created by others. You can also create a “radio station” based on any playlist, and rock out to that on your phone. If you’re having trouble making up your mind, there are non-customized radio stations for every genre you can imagine.

If you’re looking for something new, try Discover mode. It suggests albums and artists based on music you listen to frequently. You can also select playlists for different moods and activities.

A big part of Spotify is sharing. You can connect your Facebook account and follow your friends on Spotify. You’ll get to subscribe to their playlists, suggest new tunes, and see what they’ve been listening to.

Spotify is free and available for iPhone/iPad, Android, and Windows Phone.

An ad-free premium version that lets you listen to individual songs and save music for offline playback is available for $9.99 a month.
