Now that the November elections are over, local politicians are focusing on the upcoming municipal election in April.

Amy Lathen, the El Paso County Commissioner for District Two, officially launched her campaign for the 2015 mayor’s race Monday.

Lathen serves as a member on a number of boards, including the Highway Advisory Commission and the El Paso County Public Board of Health.

“I am a brand new form of leadership. A young vibrant new energy and someone who has skilled expertise in local government service delivery,” Lathen said.

Lathen’s goal is to work on homeless issues and promote job growth in Colorado Springs.

“We need to inspire job creation in this community and there are ways we can do that in the government level by getting out of their way,” Lathen said.

Her mission is to increase communication between the mayor and city council members.

“You’re going to see city leadership that thinks regionally that will focus on erasing the boundaries on the map and looking at our entire region together, not just within the city of Colorado Springs, and that will promote job growth,” she said.

Supporters say she has the experience and leadership to be the strong voice of Colorado Springs.

“Her background, her experience, her commissioner experience has definitely given her a lot of on the area, on what she needs to do to make it better,” Dave Hartsock, President of 3DP Vision, said.

“She will represent manufacturing, she will represent nonprofits, she will represent military, she will represent all of us, and she will listen to all of us,” Mary Fagnant, President and Owner of Qualtek, said.

So far three other people have announced their run for the mayor’s seat in 2015: Attorney General John Suthers, Colorado Springs real estate agent Justine Herring,  and former mayor Mary Lou Makepeace.

As of now, Mayor Steve Bach has not announced if he will run again for mayor in 2015.
