EVENTS & TRAFFIC: USA Pro Challenge rolls into Colorado Springs


The USA Pro Challenge is making its way to Colorado Springs and with that comes road closures.

The Colorado Springs leg is Stage 4 and it will be a circuit race with the entire route. It starts at the Broadmoor Hotel at 12:50 p.m., travels through downtown and Garden of the Gods before finishing back in downtown between 3:30 and 4:15.

Thursday, August 21

Finish Festival 
(Pikes Peak between Cascade & Tejon)

11:00 am – 6:00 pm

  • Multiple big screen TVs showing a live broadcast of the race
  • Kid’s Zone featuring inflatables, Strider Bikes, and other family fun
  • Multiple vendor and merchandise booths
  • Three beer locations provided by Sierra Nevada
  • A Wine location provided by Infinite Monkey Theorem
  • Live entertainment by Maxxis BMX Stunt Team
  • Complimentary Bike Valet at Acacia Park from 10:00 am – 9:00 pm

Race Day Food & Drink Specials / Sales 

– Downtown Colorado Springs and Old Colorado City, featuring live entertainment from Pikes Peak Jazz and Swing Society at Bancroft Park! 

Celebrate Colorado Springs Cycling Ride – 11:30 am – 12:00 pm, FREE community ride through downtown Colorado Springs featuring cycling organizations: USA Cycling members, USA Triathlon members, cycling clubs, BMX clubs, adaptive riding groups, unicycles, etc. Riders will stage at Acacia Park (Platte & Tejon) at 10:45 am. The ride will begin at 11:30 am and go south on Tejon St. from Acacia Park to Colorado Ave, west on Colorado Ave. to Cascade Ave, north on Cascade to Bijou St., east on Bijou St. to finish at Acacia Park. Participants are encouraged to wear cycling jerseys, costumes, etc.,and use the free bike valet in Acacia Park after the ride.  

 Race to Register!

Miss-n-Out Invitational Criterium – 12:00 – 12:30 pm: Short criterium course (0.75 miles/lap) within downtown Colorado Springs. This will be an invitational race limited to 50 riders with riders dropped periodically until 10 riders will race each other over the final laps to determine a winner. The race will be run so that final lap will finish before 12:30 pm. Riders will stage at UPC Finish Line at 11:45 am. The race will start at UPC Finish Line with riders heading south on Tejon St. to Colorado Ave., west on Colorado Ave. to Cascade Ave., north on Cascade Ave. to Bijou St., east on Bijou St. to Tejon St. and south on Tejon St. to the UPC Finish Line.

Invitational Sprint Tournament – 12:30 pm: Four heats of five riders (male & female) will sprint 430 meters from Platte Ave. to the UPC Finish Line with the top two males & females from each heat advancing to the Finals. Cyclists placing in 3rd through 5th place in each heat will compete in the Minor Finals.

Not So Pro Cycling Challenge – (Coordinated by Colorado Springs Independent) – 4:15 – 5:00 pm: 11 teams of “cyclists” will compete a cycling course on tricked-out kid’s bikes on Tejon between Pikes Peak and Kiowa. The teams will be from Tony’s, Navakai, The Ritz, McCabe’s, Springs Orleans, Jack Quinn’s, The Mansion, Cowboys, Blondie’s, Gasoline Alley, and the Independent.

·         Finish (3:30-4:15 pm): Pikes Peak Avenue & Tejon Street

Celebrate the excitement of the USA Pro Challenge – Stage 4 with some of the top riders in the world and the most well-known voices in the sport of cycling with a special evening at The Broadmoor.

·         VIP Reception at The Penrose Heritage Museum and Stage 4 Gala (next to Broadmoor Hall) 6:00 – 7:00 pm: $250 per person.

Enjoy cocktails and light appetizers with Phil Liggett, universally known as “the voice of cycling”, and Paul Sherwen, an expert cycling analyst for the Tour de France, Tour of California and USA Pro Challenge, to celebrate the excitement of Stage 4 at an exclusive VIP reception before heading to The Broadmoor for a three course dinner and Q&A with some of the top riders in the sport.   • Finish (approx. 3:10 pm): S. Main St. & Washington Ave., Breckenridge

Sunday, August 24
