Air Force Academy hosts parades on Monday, Tuesday

The Air Force Academy’s Cadet Wing has formal parades planned Monday and Tuesday, and these events are open to the public.

Each parade is part of the Academy’s graduation week activities.

Monday features the Organizational Awards Parade, 10 a.m., at the Academy’s Stillman Parade Field.  Pre-parade events begin at 9:30 a.m., and feature a performance by the Saber Drill Team and Cadet Falconry Team.  During the parade, cadet squadrons will receive  awards in the categories of leadership, military performance, academics and athletics.

Tuesday features the Class of 2014’s Graduation Parade, 10 a.m., at Stillman Parade Field.  Pre-parade events for Tuesday’s parade begins at 9:30 a.m. and feature aerial demonstrations by cadet flying teams, including glider landings on the parade field, a parachute jump by the Wings of Blue and a falconry presentation by the Cadet Falconry Team. This will be the last parade for the Class of 2014, as they turn over command of the Cadet Wing to the Class of 2015.

Both events are free, open to the public, and tickets are not required. Seating is first come, first served.

Visitors should enter the Academy through the Academy’s North Gate, at Exit 156 off I-25. Visitors are advised to arrive early, as parade attendance and vehicle traffic are typically very high. Vehicles entering the Academy are also subject to random searches, which, along with continuing construction on I-25, could also delay traffic.

Parade parking will be at the Cadet Field House, where shuttle bus services will transport attendees to the parade field starting at 7 a.m. on Monday and 8 a.m. on Tuesday. Handicapped-equipped vans will run from the parking area to the parade ground and will return following the parade.

The public is asked to not bring large bags and backpacks to the parade field, and all bags will be screened.  Cameras, video cameras and binoculars are permitted, but attendees should be prepared to remove the camera lenses for security inspection.

Both parades are subject to cancellation in the event of inclement weather.
