Possible attempted kidnapping reported near Venetucci Elementary

A possible attempted kidnapping happened Monday morning near Venetucci Elementary in the Security-area, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

A 9-year-old student reported that when he was walking to school a man in his 20s approached him in a red two or four-door car. The man said something to boy that he did not understand and then drove up to him and reached out the window toward him, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The victim never actually made contact with the boy. The boy was able to run away and report the incident.

Specifically, the incident happened in the area of Willis Street and Goret Street in the Security-area.

The suspect is described as being a white man in his 20s with a bald head. He was wearing sunglasses and a grey t-shirt. A passenger in the vehicle was described as being a medium-skinned man in his 30s with a buzz cut.

This incident remains under investigation by the School Resource Officer. Any information can be reported to the Sheriff’s Office at (719) 390-5555.

Widefield School District 3 sent out a message describing the incident to all parents. It said it is increasing security the final week of school.

“We will have increased safety and security presence in and around all schools during this last week of school,” the message read. “Students are often reminded about safety and ‘stranger danger’ at school. The district maintains a strong focus on student safety before, during and after school.”
