Shoplifting suspect hits Colorado Springs police cruiser

Colorado Springs police are searching the shoplifting suspects accused of intentionally backing into a marked police cruiser Sunday evening.

At about 6:45 p.m., officers were called to the King Soopers at Centennial Boulevard and Fillmore Street on the report of shoplifting.

Police said a male and female suspect pair left the store in a vehicle that was later determined to have been stolen.

Minutes later, an officer saw a vehicle that matched the suspect vehicle description. It was parked in the parking lot of 7-Eleven at Fillmore Street and Wood Avenue.

The officer parked near the suspect vehicle and got out at the same time the two suspects were walking out of the store. The pair got into the vehicle and the driver intentionally backed into the marked cruiser before taking off, police said.

The police cruiser suffered moderate damage and the officer was not hurt.

According to police, the suspect vehicle was described as a Silver Chevrolet truck with Colorado license plates 978-XCZ.
