Rocky Mountain State Games goes to the dogs

The Rocky Mountain State Games are in full swing and it’s bringing out all sort of athletes from the area. The dog agility competition took over lawn at America the Beautiful Park on Friday.

“It’s the funnest thing ever, it’s really fun,” exclaimed Jennifer Martin. “It’s so unpredictable with dogs. It’s just so much fun.”

Several dozen breeds competed in various competitions through the morning.

“The number on goal of our club is that everyone has a good time, especially the dogs,” said event organizer Kathy Matejka.

And even though the dogs are the ones on the clock, their owners seem to be the ones being put through the ringer.

“He’s in a lot better physical shape than I am, I’ll put it that way,” said Ponzie the Poodle’s mom, Sandie Johnson.

But at the end of the day it’s all about the bonding between the two.

“The most important thing through agility is just having fun with your dog,” said Harry Cornelius.

The dog agility competition continues Saturday and Sunday at America the Beautiful Park. For a full list of times and events, click here.
