Teen gets maximum sentence

A Pueblo teenager who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of a homeowner back in 2010 has been sentenced.

Eighteen-year-old Torey Kuznicki received the maximum sentence of 40 years in prison on Friday.

Kuznicki was 16 when he broke into the home of 50-year-old Michael Hopkins.

Investigators said during the robbery, Kuznicki shot Hopkins when he startled him.

The teen then fled to Chicago, where he was arrested months later.

Kuznicki pleaded guilty to second-degree murder rather than face a first-degree murder charge.
